help has ToC with optional index and fulltext search

help content is stored as HTML pages

ToC, index and help set files are stored as XML files (it is easy to generate them by XSLT)

fulltext index can be generated by tool which is part of Java Help distribution

whole help can be stored in a single JAR archive

Java Help viewer must be distributed with your help as it is not standard part of operating systems

viewer is Java based and available for any Java enabled platform

cross-platform (as against HTML Help), but Java Help viewing application is very slow
